Stanley Woodworking specializes in hand-crafted wood arts, unique turned wood pieces, custom wood décor, as well as fine finish carpentry and interior trim. Owned and operated by Jay Stanley, Stanley Woodworking is based out of Manhattan, MT. Jay has been a carpenter for over 15 years, yet has always had a passion for working with his hands and felt drawn to build, to create. When he tried his hand at turning wood, he discovered an innate ability to find each individual piece of wood’s purpose and beauty. He enjoys creating functional, artistic pieces that can be used and treasured for generations. When working on new home construction or a remodel, he enjoys creating features that tie a space together and make a home complete.

Jay is humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to work on many distinctive projects including: a Hangar Home at Flying Y Airport in Paradise Valley, a “Penthouse” apartment in The Baxter Hotel, and an outdoorsman’s home at Black Mountain Ranch in southwest Montana. His work has been featured in Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine (Montana Spring 2015), McPhie Cabinetry in downtown Bozeman, and the Handmade Movement Maker Series.

Jay’s passion for woodwork shows up in his dedication to detail and his commitment to helping others grow in the hand-crafted trade. As President of the Northern Rockies Woodturner’s Guild, he aims to keep the wood-turning craft alive by welcoming new members and involving the community by procuring locally harvested material in an effort to transform discarded wood into something functional and beautiful. Jay frequently takes on students of his own at his shop, moving the wood turning tradition forward.

You can find him at artisan shows like the Sweet Pea Festival (Bozeman, MT), MADE Fairs (Bozeman, Helena, and Missoula, MT), the Emerson Holiday Bazaar (Bozeman, MT), and more. Jay is also a member of Made in Montana, proving his commitment to hand-crafted excellence.

Besides his work with wood, Jay is an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He shares his love for life and the outdoors with his wife, six children, and two dogs.
